A contract of employment is the agreement made with the employee, that sets down their rights and responsibilities as well as their duties and conditions of employment.
The terms of the contract of employment are binding upon both parties, until they are amended, or until the employment comes to an end.
If you employ someone to do ad-hoc work within your company, for example building maintenance, this will not usually form a contract of employment but rather a contract to provide services.
